NEWS FROM THE MISSION SUPPORTERS LEAGUE
10TH Anniversary conference
Participants from 8 African countries and the UK converged at the MSL centre, Shere Hills for our 10th Anniversary Conference which was held in November 2008 with the theme: “Beyond the Limits, Ascending the Heights”. It was a time to asses our ministry output, receive fresh instructions from the Lord and recommit ourselves to the vision. Over 700 participants were impacted through the plenary and workshop sessions which had 16 topics. (View Photo Gallery)
Wula Hall Dedicated
The Conference hall at the MSL permanent site at Shere Hills, Jos- Nigeria has been named Wula hall in recognition of the first mission field adopted by MSL about 10 years ago.
The Wula are a tribe of about 12,000 people living on the Mandara Mountains of Adamawa State. Some of them also live across the border in Cameroon. They call themselves “the people of the rock”. Those that farm on the mountain slopes terrace their land with stones to prevent erosion. Both men and women have tribal marks. Most now wear modern clothes but a few of the old women still wear the aprons of leather thongs and jute fibers from front and back. Calvary Ministries (CAPRO) pioneered a church planting effort to the Wula and the MSL adopted the work shortly afterwards in 1998. Two indigenous churches have been planted on the hills. Much prayer and material support is needed to consolidate the effort of the mission team on the hills.
Wula Hall was completed just in time for our 10th year anniversary held in November 2008. Other structures needed on the site to make it a functional international mission mobilization centre include offices, chalets and dormitory type boarding, a training base and a retreat centre for missionaries and other Christians who desire to come for spiritual renewal. Such a capital project requires huge financial investment for the sake of the Great Commission. Any gifts towards this will be greatly appreciated. Contact any of our offices for information on how you may share a part in this project.
Visit to mission fields
Several chapters have embarked on mission field trips in the last 3 months as part of their support ministry to missionaries serving among the least reached peoples. Kano chapter went to Kyangawa field in March while Zaria chapter visited Bauchi filed. Port Harcourt Chapter paid its third visit to Bassa field where they are engaged in helping to reach the people of Cinjiteye on the hills. Vom chapter went to Kona field while Lafia chapter visited its adopted mission in far north of Cameroon.
Training of chapter leaders
A series of workshops to equip MSL members on the vision of the Movement has been ongoing since April. The southern chapters were trained at Enugu while workshops for the Northern chapters have been held so far in Maiduguri, Gombe and Jos which was completed just yesterday. Abuja, Lafia and Kano will be hosting similar workshops in the weeks to come. The mobile Training Team from the MSL office has put together a package on several levels to equip MSL members. Level 2 training comes up in 2010. To sign up, please send email to: msltrd@yahoo.com (View Photo Gallery)
International work advances.
The vision to mobilize the church across Africa for missions and missions support continues to receive favour from the Lord as we enter new countries. Since the first entry into The Gambia 5 years ago, 4 new National Movement have been established in Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon and Niger Republic. Very recently, a new thrust into East and Southern Africa as well as the Francophone countries is beginning to yield promising results. The national office of MSL Cameroon reports that it has just established a chapter in N’Djamena, the capital city of Chad where Christians from different church backgrounds can come together to join hands in support of missions to the unreached. MSL Gambia just hosted its maiden conference earlier this month. For these and more, we give thanks to God for His enabling grace.
